What do you call a day like this?
3 AM - Casper coughs a lung up.
4 AM - Drama Diva rehearses for an upcoming miniseries entitled “Focus On Me” starring her as the lead role suffering from a lighter version of the flu her brother currently has.
8 AM - Wrestle with Casper to take Tamiflu, argue with Drama Diva the merits of That’s So Raven/Hannah Montana, attempt to pull another dead puppy from the growling mother’s view.
10 AM - Both children asleep, fall into coma until both cell and home phone ring with questions from work.
1-4 PM - Repeat of morning ritual with new twist. Large Mastiff escapes pen to investigate new additions to our home thereby enraging Momma dog into lunging snips and growls, puppies mewling in the background, friend pulls up to deliver meds but choses to stay in her vehicle as she watches me handle the impending doom that could befall all of us. A shirtless Casper opens the door allowing Mastiff in the house making it easier to calm the Momma dog down.
5-7 PM - I secretly chant for a vodka tonic OR Xanax the size of a toaster but instead am delighted with a bowl of Japanese soup (chicken broth), seaweed salad, and fried rice.
8-9 PM - Same struggle with the Tamiflu and Casper but have Daddy backup in case he clamps his mouth shut. Threats of suppositories and hospital IV eventually convince him to swallow the milky fluid. Drama Diva tries to bargain her teaspoon with an extra hour of Disney Channel.
It’s now 10 pm. Currently I am the only one awake (indoors, that is), and hope to sleep six hours straight. Or four hours doubled. Or three hours tripled.
If any of you know where I can locate the larger than life Xanax…email me.
