And God Said, "Let there be floor", and there was

After much straining, cursing, sweating, and a few droplets of blood (not mine, of course!) our living room went from this:

to this:

Let it be known that I did nothing in terms of insertion, application, or affixation of said flooring. My husband and one of his co-workers diligently laid the laminate and hammered every inch of the floor with precision only seen in the professional realm. Granted, there were a few "uh-oh's" and "Holy Mother Of God, what did we do?" moments, but overall it went well. What did I do in terms of contribution? Well, let's see. Three separate Wal-Mart trips with kids, one Fall Festival at the school with both kids in Halloween costumes, and redirecting both kids away from the dangerous men in the living room with hammers and nails, that's all I did. Good thing my close friend took the kids to the late birthday party or who knows what would have transpired between me and the pinata. Tomorrow is Women of the Bible interviews, but in the off chance I don't make it, don't worry. I think for Monday's What Not to Do series, I will share some helpful hints for those about to embark on the journey known as home improvement.

A wizened, useful entry that will be (aka, what not to do); with my own personal (in)ability at handling tools with legermain and acumen, home improvement would be an oxymoron in my case.

One look at my kitchen is all one would need to verify that ;)

Kudos, Tish!

Looks great!

(Learned secret. Whenever I removed or changed a carpet I repainted the room first. No need for a dropcloth.)

Looks great!

I've got to go on the search for the "after the crash" fix 'em ups. Did I miss 'em? (Was out of commission for over a week's period)

And a mighty important chore it was you performed, saving those guys from the horrid task of running to the store.

I hope they buy you a Pinata and give you a baseball bat, not that little stick they give you. Have at it!

Wow - beautiful! And I'm impressed with your hubby and his friend. Installing/refinishing wood floors is one of those home improvement tasks I was always told NEVER to attempt yourself!
