Women of the Bible Interviews: Mary

mothermary.jpg Welcome to our last Women of The Bible Interviews for 2005. For the past year, we have spent time with women of high integrity, low morality, and questionable judgement. Each interview has been special in its own right, but none hold a candle with today's guest.
Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, has graciously agreed to answer a few questions about her child, parenting, and her faith.

Tish: Thank you so much for letting my readers get to know you a little better.
Mary: I am always curious why people consider me worthy of their attention. Anyone in my situation would have done the same thing.
Tish: I don't know about that, Miss Mary. It must have been difficult to find yourself a pregnant virgin.
Mary: I was what you consider engaged to Joseph when this angel, Gabriel, came to tell me what God had planned for me.
Tish: I read where you asked him how it was possible for you to have child since you were a virgin, and he told you of the Holy Ghost.
Mary: There was no one else to ask. He assured me that the Holy Ghost would come over me and the Son of God would be born from me.
Tish: How did that feel, to be chosen from millions of women to carry the Saviour?
Mary: Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. After Joseph understood what was to happen and why, that lifted a load of worry from me but the daily worries of a first pregnancy were still a concern. Every time my little Jesus would stretch his arms or kick, I would wonder if he was okay.
Tish: I cannot imagine what you went through to have him in those conditions and without any pain medication.
Mary: Women have been having babies in caves, barns, and even the fields long before the invention of your hospitals. As for the pain, of course there was pain but when I heard my Son cry, that tiny gasp for air, it was worth every moment.
Tish: What sort of child was Jesus?
Mary: (Smiles) Everyone wants to know that. He was a good child. Played with other children, laughed at silly jokes and ran in from the fields when I called him for meals. A mother delights in the gleam of happiness in her child, and my Son was no different. He was a happy child.
Tish: Did you ever have to discipline Him?
Mary: No. He was not like the other children, mischievious or selfish. Jesus had a spirit of love, kindness, and peace about him even as a small child. There was no need to correct him.
Tish: You must have been so proud of him when he began performing miracles and bringing people to God.
Mary: Oh, yes! My Son's miracles are only stories to you, but we were there to see them happen. There was no room for doubt.
Tish: I would also imagine the most difficult thing to endure was watching your Son hang on the cross.
Mary: (eyes filled with tears) There are no words. What I can say is that although His death literally saved all of mankind, the mother in me will forever weep her child's pain. May I say something to your readers?
Tish: Of course, anything.
Mary: When you feel you've reached your limit with your child, remember me. When you think your life is hard, think of my Son. He is the reason for this season, after all.
Tish: Thank you so much for your time, Miss Mary. I speak for all the mothers in the world when I say thank you for your example.
Mary: It wasn't me, my dear. It was my Son. Remember Him not just this weekend, but every day.

It has been a wonderful year, hasn't it? If you have any requests for next year's interview series, feel free to leave them. We may venture out and begin the Men series, but I hear Goliath is hard to interview as he only grunts and nods.
As always, take care of yourselves and your families. Remember, life and love have the same number of letters, but can be infinite if you make the right choice.
God Bless You all and Merry Christmas.

Tish, thanks for everything you've given me this year. Merry Christmas to you all and to your readers, many of whom have given me a lot too. A good character draws good characters, I suppose. It's been fun reading here.

Tish,

I enjoyed this tender interview. I'm looking forward to your '06 guests. But be careful. Always sit to the side of that Palestinian terrorist, Goliath, because if he nods his head...

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Your interview reminded me of the Passion Play in South Dakota. It really came alive in an outdoor amphitheatre. It was the first time that I thought of how Mary would have felt.

"When you think your life is hard, think of my Son. He is the reason for this season, after all."

That is a powerful statement. Well done. :)
